George Nakashima: conoid chair, named after his studio in New Hope, Pennsylvania
Growing up I knew nothing else but George Nakashima furniture. My grandparents/parents were personal friends with him before his death in 1990 and have been collecting his wooden “art” for years.
Other notable collectors include Steven Spielberg, Brad Pitt, Steve Jobs, Tom Hanks, Julianne Moore and Diane von Furstenberg. Last summer, DVF set a world auction record for Nakashima by purchasing a 14-foot-long dining table for $130,500 at a Phillips, de Pury & Luxembourg auction.
